The Conquerors Drop another Tough Game against Glendora

Los Altos battled until the end during Friday’s non-league game against Glendora. Both teams executed on defense, but in the fourth quarter the Tartans offense sparked which led to a Glendora victory.

The Conquerors and Tartans failed to get anything going on offense in the first quarter. The Conquerors defense played great as they intercepted Gonzalez, and force two fumbles early on. The offense failed to score off of these mistakes which set Los Altos back early.

Senior left tackle Manuel Lona said, “The game came down to some bad calls by the refs, and mental breakdowns, but it was mostly on the offensive side of the ball, which is what we will work on this week.”

Late in the second quarter Glendora struck first with a 32-yard field goal by Shane Nutter which gave Glendora a 3-0 lead. The Conquerors offense finally came to live with 6:35 left in the second as Hacegaba connected with Zechariah Rodriguez on an 80-yard touchdown pass which gave the Conquerors a 7-3 lead.

Glendora was determined to score before half as they stormed down the field, and eventually scored off of a handoff to Ford for a 1 yard touchdown giving the Tartans the lead with 2 seconds left in the half.

Senior safety Anthony Licea commented about the team’s performance saying,” The team needs to improve on moving forward is to fix all the little things and play together as a team.”

The Conquerors made one last surge, but were no match for a stingy Glendora defense which took the victory 24-14

Lona said, “The team needs to improve on our overall mindset and the way we approach practices and games.”

The Conquerors will hit the road Saturday against a tough Northview squad on September 15, 2018, hoping to improve their 2-2 record.

Northview has been dominant as of late and the Conquerors know they have a tough week ahead of them, “I expect Northview to come out playing as if they have nothing to lose and bring everything they got to the field, but it starts with us at practice, being on task, and understanding our assignments. Having great practices for the rest of the year are crucial.
