There are many types of choir here at LAHS. Many people have been joining as of this year.
“It’s really fun. It helps to get rid of your stage fright and also it helps you make your leadership skills and your teamwork skills get to a better place.” said Gethsemane Ortiz, a junior and member of LA Harmony. “The best thing about choir is to participate in fun activities and events with your choir mates.”
There are several people in LA harmony, and another group that has frequently been joined is Men’s Choir.
“I am in the men’s choir. It’s about tenor bass and tenor one. Base is the lowest we go and it is basically just men singing.” said Ralph Lievanos, a junior and member of the Men’s choir. “We don’t get hard songs or easy songs. If not all of us are in harmony it kind of all falls apart.”
Several events involve all of the types of choir. One example of this is the “Broadway show” for the LAHS choir. It involved all of the performing choir students in a show for the community center.
Aside from the Men’s choir and the LA Harmony, there is also a Chamber Choir. It has different techniques.
“I’m in chamber singers and it’s an acapella choir. We’re mostly based on harmony so we depend on each other. We sing by ourselves since it’s advanced.” said Madison Chavez, a junior and member of the Chamber Choir at LAHS. “We’re a strong leading group and get the most difficult music to sing I would say out of all choirs.”
There are several things and activities to look forward to in joining one of the said choir programs at our high school.
“It’s a fun place to hang out and sing with your friends. Since most of my friends are in it, it’s a chill spot to hang.” said Ralph Lievanos.
Having fun in an elective is very important for the overall class schedule, so getting along with people in the room is also crucial.
“I love show choir. It’s a very fun thing to do. You create a family as you work together. While it is a lot of work, the end result is amazing.” said Ryleigh Macias, a member of the show choir and a sophomore at LAHS.
Even with all of the enjoyment coming from merely being with a group or friends, the results of all of the practice is also something they all look forward to.
“My favorite part of the chamber is basically being able to bond with everyone in the choir. There’s never any awkward moments since we all know each other.” said Madison Chavez. “There’s times where we all focus and it ends in good results.”
