Throughout the years at multiple other high schools, school spirit has been
broadcast through wearing school colors around the school. It is normal to see pink
posters, shirts, bracelets, and even more accessories during Breast Cancer Awareness
month.
Although not everyone on campus contributes to the Conqueror Cancer month
campaign, it is still interesting to attend the game and see ASB pull off their pink-colored
shenanigans.
Many people like the idea of pink out, and think that the fashion is interesting to
look at, but most people can agree that awareness is very important when discussing pink
out.
“I love the idea, but I felt like our pink out could have been a bit better. The timing
was weird and the advertising wasn’t the best. We also ended up losing the game. I feel
like if we had advertised it a bit more and done it a different day it would’ve been a lot
better,” said Valeria Salinas, a sophomore at LAHS.”
While many people agree that the pink out is good, it is important to see how
other groups entice awareness Take the band.
“I think pink out is a great way to show support for awareness. The band shows
support by adding pink dots or wearing pink t-shirts underneath our uniforms, painting on
our face the e LA symbol.” said Melia-Justine Raya, a senior at LAHS. “I think it’s a
great way to show support for cancer patients and for social support in general.”
If it weren’t for pink out, many people would not be advised or educated about
breast cancer. It is important to the school environment that pink out occurs.
“There were many activities that would’ve gone perfectly with pink out and many
were easy and accessible, however we chose not to use them,” said Valeria Salinas. “I
feel like when executed well, pink out is a really fun and helpful idea.”
Even though it might just be seen as just another event, pink out is an important
measure to take in terms of education. It is vital to our academic and mental growth that
everyone sees multiple perspectives of many things, pink out just being an example.
“It is important to spread awareness and it offers support. The entire month is for
recognizing and educating others on cancer so we can better aid people who have cancer
or are affected by it in ways” said Melia-Justine Raya.
