As winter approaches, a competitive and exciting lineup of Hacienda La Puente
Unified athletics, including basketball, soccer, and wrestling comes with it. In less
than two months, the 2024-25 winter sports will commence after months of
preparation with the support of coaches, team captains, and school faculty.
Los Altos High School’s basketball teams will look to continue their runs of success
this season. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams have had highly successful seasons in
the past few years, including several strong finishes in the Hacienda League and
advancing and excelling in the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section
(CIF-SS) playoffs.
The junior varsity (JV) and varsity teams have been training rigorously for months
before the season officially tips off in late November. This year, both girls’ basketball
teams have new coaches, with Dennis Ullom leading the varsity team and Angela
Hines taking over for the JV squad.
“I’m really excited about this season, we have a lot of new players, a new coach, and
a lot to look forward to,” JV student-athlete Anali Avalos said. “This year my goal is to
improve more and more and give my best to my team.”
In addition to the girls’ teams, the boys have also been busy preparing for the season
ahead with physical conditioning, skill development through drills, team bonding,
mental preparation, and more.
The boys’ varsity basketball coach Jeff Lucas, who has been coaching at Los Altos
for 37 years, has helped lead the Conquerors to the CIF playoffs several times in the
past years. JV head coach Wes Hsieh and Freshman coach Sam de Haas are also
excited about this year’s talent and ready for a successful year.
Hacienda La Puente Unified encourages the entire District community to support our
student-athletes throughout the school year and celebrate their dedication, hard
work, and camaraderie. We are eagerly looking forward to witnessing all our athletes
soar to new heights this academic school year
