On February 14th, 2025, Paddington in Peru was released to theaters. The new movie
follows a bear named Paddington living in England, who goes to great lengths when his Aunt
Lucy leaves him a set of clues to find her in Peru.
“I enjoyed the graphics and the way the characters talked.” senior Anthony Garcia said. “
I did not really enjoy the father’s character because I found him to be a bit annoying and
overbearing.”
Although Garcia did not enjoy the character, it is important to see the critics left in place
instead.
“He was a real pain and seemed to complain the whole time, and I feel that his arc
could’ve been strengthened better if we got more positive aspects and perspectives from him,”
Garcia said.
The animation was also quite a strong spot for fans, especially those who have also read
the original short children’s book.
“The animation for the ending was beautiful and the way the jam was animated was
certainly in homage to the original story’s paddington.” sophomore Eder Bello said. “He would
be impressed with the movie, which is one of the ways I like to scale any book to movie
adaptations.”
Paddington is not new to Peru, but rather that Peru is new to him. Viewers of the movie
were impressed by the storyline and the overall plot of the story.
“I found the plot to be interesting because of the way it is so concise,” sophomore Andy
Ruiz said. “The way it is about an immigrant learning to care for both of his cultural identities
was interesting to watch, especially with such drastic differences from his original habitat and his
new home in Britain.”
This movie is a sequel, so it is very important to compare and contrast the original to see
what makes this version so endearing. It is interesting to see where the charm comes from.
“ It was nice to see him embrace both counterparts near the end of the film and the way
the directors decide to implement both cultures and details for that specific place.” Garcia said.
This can raise a certain aspect and perspective of relatability for the viewer. Someone
who relates to the characters and the overall film is more likely to become attached or enjoy the
movie better.
Plot twists are also a key part of creating a movie. This isn’t to say that movies without a
plot twist or two are terrible, but it is usually a priority placed when creating a film.
“I was really shocked when I saw the family issues and the way the plot twist played out
near the end,” said Bello. “ I feel like a lot of heart was put into this movie, so it wasn’t just some
random cash grab after the popularity of the first one.”
