On February 25, 2025 at Hacienda Heights Community Center HLPUSD held their annual Choir Competition Festival showcasing. This event showcased the talents and abilities of choirs from various schools around southern California, providing them with the opportunity to demonstrate their vocal skills, coordination, and musical expression.
The Choir competition was an all-day event starting early in the morning and warmed up with some simple excises the performed was done by the chamber choir members.
Patrick Rios Senior Chamber Choir member said, “Well to start off, our call time was 8:30 and the event started at 9:00 we warmed up and practiced our pieces until nine really for our warmups we sing the scale and use different exercises to help open our mouths more and allow our vocal cord to warmup for later performance”.
The festival served as a platform for young vocalists to refine their performances, receive valuable feedback, and engage in friendly competition with fellow choir members from different schools all around.
“That this festival is the best time to show off our skill and receive feedback from expert judges and witness other amazing Choirs perform” Rios said.
With multiple schools participating, the competition was filled with remarkable performances. Each choir brought something unique to the festival, demonstrating their dedication and passion for choral music.
Omar Alvarez Junior Chamber Choir member said, “All the schools did great, however there was one group who stood out to me was the choir from Sunny Valley high school they were a small group of nine people, yet they were very coordinated, blended, and in tune with each other and had an amazing performance with their amazing vocals.”
At the conclusion of the festival, the Los Altos Chamber Choir was awarded a Superior rating by the judges, the highest rating given at the event.
“Well as a choir we all really pour our hearts out into this music, and to be rewarded with superior was very gratifying everyone was excited and overjoyed with our self and the songs we performed with” Alvarez said.
