Los Altos High School dancers had to design their own costume for the spring concert: In the heights. With two days to display their outfit, on April 23rd and 24th, with the 24th being senior night.
With Dance Production, Advanced Dance, and Intermediate creating different outfits for the concert. Advanced Dance Hip-Hop dance being themed as red, orange, and black, and Intermediate Dance being themed as green, white, and blue.
Sophomore Natalie Montanez said, ‘’I was so glad we were able to create our own outfits. I like to see what people create and using my own creativity to make an outfit was just so fun.’’
Allowing Los Altos dancers the opportunity to express themselves through their outfits. Showing Los Altos dancers creativity, style, and self-expression through the clothes picked.
Intermediate Dance danced to the song ‘’PYT,’’ one of the most popular Michael Jackson songs. P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing) comes from Michael Jackson album Thriller, an upbeat, celebratory song about young love and attraction.
Montanez said, ‘’I created my outfit using the color schemes needed such as green, white, and blue.’’
Intermediate Dancers chose outfits such as Hip-Hop theme, vibrant green, white, and blue jeans as their outfits. However, it was not limited to those colors, as some dancers chose softer colors, such as a light blue sweater and light green.
Montanez said, ‘’I did not have inspiration for the outfit besides wanting a button up shirt to layer over my white shirt, however, I just wanted to look cute but almost a street style look.’’
For the shoes, Intermediate Dancers had to wear black and white shoes, matching with their outfit. With Intermediate Dancers picking brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Jordan.
Advanced Dance Hip-Hop styled dance, danced to the song ‘’Que Calor,’’ by Major Lazer, J Balvin, and El Alfa. Que Calor emphasizes no discrimination, enjoyment, intense summer vibes, and dancing, urging for listeners to dance to the song.
Advanced Dance outfit matched the summer vibes perfectly, with their outfit theme being red, orange, and denim. Advanced dancers styled their outfits with bananas, with them hinting at orange and red.
Advanced Dancers were not limited to denim pants, with some using shorts to match the summer-vibes of the song. Advanced Dance also had to use the same black and white shoes like Intermediate Dance, matching their outfit perfectly.
The closer, with Dance Production, Advanced Dance, and Intermediate Dance, they had to pick black and white outfits, with matching black and white shoes. For both shows, they were provided with a black sparkly hat.
Montanez said ‘’I created my closure outfit using a white long sleeve button up shirt and black pants for that Michael Jackson look.’’
