The National Art Honors Society (NAHS) club organized the 2026 Art Show at LAHS.
The Garden Disco themed Art Show was held in the Hacienda, on Apr. 29 and 30.
There was featured art work from intro art, intermediate art, AP studio art, summer
school art, ethnic studies art, and digital graphics. There were also snacks and art for sale.
NAHS member Wendy Castellanos said, “I have learned how to express my creativity
and thoughts.”
Being involved at school in visual art classes and clubs that are of students interests can
impact their talents in a positive way.
“Being part of NAHS means that I am able to take on an artistic challenge for projects,”
Castellanos said “My confidence has increased due to receiving positive opinions from those
around me about my artwork.”
NAHS is a student led club that offers access to activities and art events where students
can get involved.
“I decided to join the art club because I have taken intro art and I am currently taking
intermediate art which is really fun and there are many exciting art styles,” said Castellanos, “I
think the art club is important to the school because it allows many young artists to showcase
their skills.”
Students have an option to join the NAHS club if they want to support the LAHS art
community.
“I feel like a lot of people only do art inside a school, and I feel as though if they see their
work being recognized in school, they will continue to do it outside of school.” said senior
Alaysia Torres, “The main purpose of the art show is to make sure that all the students have a
place to showcase their art.”
There is team work behind an event like the art show; students team up to help on the
preparation of the art show.
“I would say it takes two to three weeks to organize everything, but at the same time, we
are kind of planning since the summer before school, because we will have some pieces from
summer school.” Torres said. “And the matting takes probably the longest part, because we have
mat every single individual piece, but that’s mostly Miss O.”
The NAHS club adviser is Ms. Oseguera; her role in the club is to support and listen for
new ideas the members of the club bring.
“My favorite part of organizing the art show is probably building my own portfolio
because all the AP students get their own sections, and my favorite part has been working on my
own pieces for that section.” Torres said “My theme is self-discovery, self recognition, it’s a lot
of experimental pieces. It’s a lot of moving, because my section will be one of the only sections
that you could actually touch, which is having a puppet and more, there will be interactive
pieces.”
AP art allows students an opportunity to showcase multiple pieces of artworks to the
LAHS community.
“I hope people take away from the art show the fact that anybody can do art because we
really have a wide range of all kinds of art,” Torres said. “We have ethnic studies art, we have
intro art, we have intermediate art, we have AP art”
