The game between the Chargers and Chiefs teams played in Brazil, showed how the NFL is interested in making their games international to get more followers to the sport all around the world, Chargers surprised and won 27-21 and broke a streak of 7 losses in a row against the Chiefs. Justin Herbert was considered the star player of the game, he completed 318 yards and three touchdowns, and also added a decisive run of 19 yards at the end of the game. On the other hand the player Patrick Mahomes had a complicated debut: 24 of 39 passes for 258 yards and a touchdown, but without being able to come back.
The junior student at Los Altos High School, Nivyah Hernandez said, “ My favorite moment of the game was when Justin Herbert threw 318 yards and he had 3 touchdowns, I expected the Chargers winning because they have been doing good from when I last heard about them and I didn’t really think they struggle much.”
The followers of the sport have their own favorite part of the game, depending on how they see the football game and the team they are supporting.
“ I think that the crowd in Brazil made that game different from the U.S. because people from Brazil just bring a different vibe to the game, and I just think anywhere you go there is going to be a different vibe, they had the energy, they were loud, energetic and it positively impacted players.” Said Hernandez.
The fact that the NFL is making their games in an international place, it makes all the vibe of each game change, it can feel different because all people around the world have many ways to react and different levels of emotions about the game also depending on the team playing.
“ I do like the mix between the music and game events because it just makes it more interesting even if you don’t really watch football you still listen to music, I think it was nice that they had different things.” Said Hernandez.
The NFL should make more international games to give the opportunity to assist different people that may not have the opportunity to go to the games in the United States.
“ I think the NFL should make more international games for the exposure of the players and for other people who never witness an American game in their home town, I think that would be really special for them to see. If I could choose another country for the next NFL game would be Mexico because I think it could also be energetic and I feel they would also bring a positive impact to American sports.” Said Hernandez.
These games out of the United States would also help the football players to be more recognized and have more fans throughout the different countries.
“ If I could meet a player from this game I think it could be Keenan Allen, I would ask what gets you ready before a game for you to perform so well and what advice would you give to younger players that are inspired to be like you.” Said Hernandez.
At the end of the game there was a clash between Teair Tart and Travis Kelce, the charger defender slapped Kelce’s helmet open after an altercation in the third quarter. This generated a 15-yard penalty, but he was not expelled because it was not a punch.
The broadcast was free and exclusively transmitted on Youtube, it was the first NFL game without pay. The Corinthians stadium was full with 47,600 attendees, many of them wearing the Chiefs shirts, showing the support for American football.
Karol G was the star of the halftime show bringing latin vibes throughout her music, style, choreographies, sounds and props on the stage. She provided a cultural style by performing some of the songs from her new album “Tropicoqueta” such as “Bandida Entrenada” in portugues, “ Latina Foreva”, “Si antes te hubiera conocido”, and “Un Gatito Me Llamo”.
She closed the show with her hit “Papasito,” This song has Spanglish lyrics that connect with many different cultures and audiences through this show.
The freshman, Evaluna Escalante said, “ I am a fan of Karol G, and I listen to her music every day. My favorite song is “Mañana sera bonito.”
“My favorite part of the show was the songs because she chose a lot of those I like the most and I will describe the show in three words as well put together.”
“ I think what makes Karol G special as a performer is that she is very unique, she always involves culture and she is very diverse. She represented the Latin culture on such a big stage by singing in Spanish, by talking in English and by dancing.” Said Escalante.
The NFL giving the opportunity to a Latina artist is showing how they want to make their followers more international and break the stereotypes of society.
Karol G shows how she has broken many musical barriers and how as a Latin female artist have achieved all those opportunities to keep raising her roots, culture and traditions throughout the entire world.
“ I think it was really nice and I liked seeing that they invited a female artist that is Latina and I feel really happy because she is a girl and is hispanic and she is a good person so it makes me feel good that they chose the right person to perform.” Said Escalante.
The opinion of Escalante is how many people around the world may feel, mainly women because this show expressed a lot of women’s power and better opportunities for them to be recognized.
“I think this performance will make more people around the world interested in her music because a lot of people watch the NFL in the United States, so I think everyone is proud of her and may look up to her.” Said Escalante.
The show she put on the stage was full of power and it was well purposeful in all the aspects like the dancers, the music, vibes and Latino rhythms.
Karol G’s outfit was tropical, with a pineapple top, ruffled skirt and golden details that match and highlight all the carnival vibe from Brazil and Latin culture. Her show mixed choreographies with the coordination of many dancers, live percussion, fireworks at the end of the show with her hit “Papasito” that made it feel like a true celebration from Latin culture represented on the stage.
“ Her outfits were really unique and I really like them all, I like the dancers and the choreography because it made the show ten times better since they were all coordinated, I think this show help people to know more about Latin music because she sang a bunch of different types of genres in Spanish, she sing in different languages, and if I could add another song to the setlist would be “Pineapple” because it goes with the vibe of the performance.” Said Escalante.
Karol G’s music is known for helping people to go through hard times and inspire them to be their best version and continue being proud of their race, roots and native country.
“ I think shows like this inspire young girls like me because it makes us feel proud of our culture and where we come from, it makes us feel important to always embrace our culture. I would like to see her performing at the Super Bowl half time show with Shakira.”
